OSX Lion will be released in summer 2011 and will bring many new features.
The list of new things is quite wide especially because the main point is to integrate a kind of touch experience.

The characteristics that Apple has revealed yet are:

Mac App Store

The App Store is exactly the same in Leopard, a place where you can buy app for your Mac

Launchpad

Launchpad is the same function that we find in iPad. Just click on the icon in the Dock Launchpad to fade away all open windows and leave room for a full screen view of all applications installed on your Mac

App Full Screen

IPad applications are displayed full screen without distractions. The same feature has been brought to the Lion and just like on the iPad, simply pressing a button to return to the Mac desktop.

Mission Control

Mission Control provides an overview of everything that happens on your Mac and allows you to quickly switch from one task to another.

Gestures and Animations

The interaction in MAC OS X Lion has been greatly improved. Like the multi-touch iPad pages, zoom, applications become even richer and more fluid.

Auto Save

Auto save will allow users to save work in peace and without the need to save your work manually. Lion will automatically save your work, without creating additional copies of the same file, so you also save disk space.

Versions

This useful feature called versions, logs all changes to a document with a few clicks and enables you to restore a previous version or part of the document you are working on what. The interface is similar to Time Machine.

Resume

Resume is another new feature introduced in Lion that will save you time. When there is a need to restart your Mac every time you have to save all the work, close the windows and so on. Resume directly through you restart the Mac for example, following an upgrade, without worrying about having to close or save. Your Mac will take care of this, you will have the system with all apps and open works as you had left them.
